Colorants - to Mica or not to Mica, that is the question
Share
When coloring products such as our soap, there is much to take into account.
We need to factor in soap/oil/salt solubility, light-safe, fading vs lasting over time, environmental and social impact (from mining to labor), vegan/non-vegan, cost, and more.
After careful consideration, we have chosen to use a combination of natural colors (botanicals, natural oil colors), and mica (both natural and nature-identical) because of their advantages and minimal impact on both the environment and social issues.
Mica - Our Mica is vegan and ethically sourced. Our primary supplier is MADMICA:
What is natural-identical?
- Lab-made mica mimics the effect of natural mica. They are chemically indistinguishable from "naturally found mica" so they are considered to be "natural-identical". Being made from natural minerals and indistinguishable from "natural found mica", it is an environmentally-friendly alternative and no mining needs to happen and they can be created pure instead of needing to mined and then purified in a lab.
Are micas vegan and cruelty free?
- Our micas contain no animal products and have not been tested on animals, either by us or by our suppliers. We require declarations from all of our suppliers indicating that our micas contain no animal products and are never tested on animals.
